Milanese Cold Brew Coffee Mocha – Barbajada

The Barbajada was popular in Milan in the 19th to early 20th Century.  Traditionally made from equal parts chocolate, milk and coffee, it was served warm in Summer and cold in Winter.  Enjoy after dinner, accompanying some Panettone.

Serves 4

You’ll need:

  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder (3/4 oz)
  • 1/8 cup sugar (1 oz)
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2/3 cup Original Cold Brew
  • Whipped cream, for serving

Method:

  1. In a bowl, stir together cocoa powder and sugar until thoroughly combined.
  2. In a saucepan, heat milk over moderate heat until steaming.
  3. Whisk in cocoa/sugar mixture along with coffee, whisking rapidly until hot and frothy.
  4. Divide into warmed mugs and top with whipped cream.
